The most significant change is convenience. No longer dragging out ladders every December, and playing about with wires which got tied somewhere in the shop. The system is nonobtrusive to install since it is part of the structure and follows the rooflines, soffits and trim and could be controlled through your phone. It is not so decorative but is in fact a part of the house.
The first aspect that surprised me when I first saw a good installation was that it was so inconspicuous when I saw it during the daytime. You would pass by the house without having even a clue that there was something in it. Then evening falls and all the outside is flooded with subdued, watered down light. Not harsh. Not overdone. Clear, straight, color lines that follow the architecture.
Installation may be quite correct or quite incorrect.
An uninterrupted permanent lighting system is not that easy as a repair of LED strips. The wiring must be hidden, paths must follow and spacing be equal. You will find that the brightness has not been applied evenly or there are clumsy gaps, in case the installer was in a hurry. That sort of a thing is more noticeable than you would think, at night.
And the issue of control systems. Others are plain on, off and some of the colors. Other people go further because they allow you to program scenes to be used in holidays, events or even in a daily mood. Even warm white to a winter gloom. Colored objects on a party. Night light amber. It is not predetermined to the past days of lighting.
It is weather-resistant. External lights are dimmed–heat, rain, dust, all. The cheap systems fade after a couple of days or begin to blink after a season. It is installed properly using strong materials and then it is well sealed and thus you do not have to call somebody after six months.
Money is a topic of an expedited discussion. It is more in your face, can you do without it. But that is nothing compared to purchasing new lights annually, replacing broken clips and spending hours to install and take them off. It self balances in the long run. Even better, it saves your time and at that, it is the lesser of the two evils.
It also alters the use of their homes a bit. The necessity of light is no longer holiday bargain. It is an aspect of life. A glow down the roof line will render a house cozier at night. It provides a personality without yelling.
Other house owners go to the extreme and install color changing systems. Plain whites are worn by other people to make them look more traditional. Neither feels wrong. It will be founded on your desire of how you wish your house to be at the time when the sun goes down.
One more thing to say–placement decisions are not that insignificant as many people believe. Excessive lighting and it begins to appear congested. so many too few, and that is one dead loss. This is usually guided by a good installer but it is nice to have an idea of what you like but not too definite before the installer drills something.
And neighbors hearken. Not every minute, but you will hear people slowing when they go by. Good lighting, place and clean is an attractive and not excessive detail.
At some stage it ceases to be a nice upgrade, but just a functionality of the house. You also switch it on just as any other feature. No setup. No seasonal routine. Light where light there be.
